I am here to share the importance of having your routine smear checks, I had a scare at 25 years old when my first smear came back with abnormal cells. If i did not have my cone biopsy or even gone for my smear, it could have then turned into Cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. It is one of the most common types of cancer among women worldwide.
To raise awareness about cervical cancer, it is important to educate females about the following:
-
Risk factors: Some of the risk factors for cervical cancer include human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, smoking, using oral contraceptives for a long time, having multiple full-term pregnancies, and a weak immune system.
-
Symptoms: Symptoms of cervical cancer may not appear until the cancer has advanced. Common symptoms include unusual vaginal bleeding, pain during sexual intercourse, and pelvic pain.
-
Screening and Prevention: Regular screening tests such as the Pap test and HPV test can help detect cervical cancer in its early stages, when it is most treatable. Getting the HPV vaccine can also significantly reduce the risk of developing cervical cancer.
-
Treatment options: If detected early, cervical cancer can often be treated effectively. Treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.
It is important to go for regular cervical cancer screenings and encourage women to talk to their healthcare provider about their risk and the best screening options for them. By raising awareness and encouraging early detection, we can help reduce the number of deaths from cervical cancer.
